Iowa Native to Hold Book Signing in New Hampton

Courtney McDermott
Courtney McDermott author of "How They Spend Their Sundays"

NEW HAMPTON- Courtney McDermott’s story is pretty interesting and the stories she tells are equally so. The 2002 graduate of New Hampton High School ventured east to attend school and then took her travels even further by joining the Peace Corps where she was stationed in Africa.

Inspired by her experience in Africa, McDermott wrote a collection of short stories titled “How They Spend Their Sundays.”  The book is a collection of 22 short fictional stories that presents a perspective of African life.

On Sunday, the Carnegie Cultural Center in New Hampton will host McDermott as she reads passages and signs copies of her book.  Cultural Center Director Juanita Andersen says the center has hosted other authors in the past.

Andersen says the event is a great way to learn more about the life of an Iowa Native.

Currently, McDermott is working at Harvard in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.  For more information about the Courtney McDermott author event, contact the Carnegie Cultural Center at (641) 394-2354.
