Lawsuit: Casey’s fired manager in dead twins case

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — A lawsuit contends that a gas station chain fired an Iowa store manager shortly after her report to police led to the arrest of an employee who killed newborn twins.

Teresa Anderson alleges that Casey’s General Store illegally fired her for prompting the investigation that led to the discovery of dead babies in the trunk of employee Jackie Burkle’s car in January 2012.

The lawsuit filed Wednesday claims that one supervisor told Anderson that the matter was “not a Casey’s issue.”

A spokesman for Ankeny-based Casey’s declined comment.

Casey’s managers told Anderson that she was fired for mistakes she made before taking a leave to deal with the stress associated with the tragedy. But the lawsuit claims that was a pretext. Anderson was a store manager in Huxley.
