Man finds load of butchered chickens in Iowa road

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — An eastern Iowa food pantry has experienced its own Christmas miracle when a man found a load of butchered chickens destined for the pantry in an Iowa City road.

Blaine Thomas tells Cedar Rapids television station KCRG ) that he was driving along Highway 1 in Iowa City on Wednesday when he came across the pile of freshly butchered chickens.

The chickens were headed for Solon to become Christmas dinners for the needy.

Jay Proffitt, a Solon man who helped raise the chickens, said the fowl had been taken to Kalona on Wednesday to be butchered and were being driven back to Solon. A cooler carrying about half the chickens fell out on the way back.
