Poultry salvaged from road in Iowa chicken miracle

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — A load of chicken destined for an Iowa food pantry was rescued from beside a road thanks to what one man calls a miracle.

Blaine Thomas tells KCRG-TV ) he spotted the mound of freshly butchered chicken Wednesday night in Iowa City.

Thomas didn’t want the poultry to be wasted, so he picked the chicken up and posted his find on Facebook. On Thursday morning a tip led him to Jay Proffitt.

Proffitt, of nearby Solon, helped raise the chickens. A friend sent them to be butchered Wednesday, and afterward a cooler containing the birds fell from a vehicle destined for a pantry.

Proffitt didn’t think he’d see the chicken again, but after their return he called his pastor to say it was a miracle and “we found our chickens.”
