Police arrest Iowa man in officer-related shooting

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — A northeast Iowa man hospitalized following an officer-related shooting in Cedar Falls has been arrested.

The state Division of Criminal Investigation says 27-year-old Zachary Church, of Parkersburg, was arrested Monday after he was released from Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

Church faces charges of assault against a peace officer and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver in connection to a shooting on Christmas. Court records do not list an attorney.

Cedar Falls police say Church attacked Officer Bob Anderson during a traffic stop and beat him close to unconsciousness. Anderson shot Church, hospitalizing him.

Church was taken to the Black Hawk County Jail but records show he is no longer there. Authorities are still investigating Anderson’s use of lethal force in the case.
