Iowa courthouse evacuated after sprinkler mishap

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A burst sprinkler line has left a soggy mess in east-central Iowa’s Black Hawk County Courthouse.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports ( that the courthouse was evacuated Friday after the sprinkler mishap flooded the courthouse’s entryway.

The water came down shortly after noon as outside temperatures reached into the 20s following a day of below-zero temperatures. A pipe above the main exit doors had ruptured.

Water flowed past the security checkpoint and reached the door to the Black Hawk County Treasurer’s Office before it was pushed back by building maintenance workers and Waterloo firefighters using mops and squeegees.
