The Charles City Comet Wrestlers made the trip to Independence looking for their chance to advance to districts. The Comet Grapplers had an excellent showing advancing 10 wrestlers out of the 14 weight classes. Charles City crowned five champions and had five runner-ups. At 106 pounds, freshman Nate Lasher was a sectional champion, sophomore Austin Staudt was the runner-up at 113 pounds, Junior Johnny Etherington was the champion at 120 pounds, at 126 pounds sophomore Max Forsyth was sectional champion, junior Jake Niichel was the runner-up at 132 pounds, senior Wyatt Forsyth won both of his matches to become champion at 138 pounds, senior Alex Mitchell advanced to districts after a win in the wrestle backs at 145 pounds, senior Zach Milks was sectional champion at 152 pounds, at 160 pounds senior Seth Niichel was runner-up, and in the final match of the day, senior Taylor Cole won his wrestle back to advance at 195 pounds. Charles City and Independence ended up tying at 249.5 points in the team standings, but Independence had 7 champions to earn the sectional team title. Nonetheless, Charles City advances to the regional duals competition which will be held Tuesday night in Manchester. The Comet Wrestlers will have a chance at revenge as they will take on Independence at 6pm. If the Comets win that, they will most likely take on West Delaware in a chance to advance to the state duals.
