Winter Weather Causes Havoc for Drivers

accident one

CHARLES CITY- Thursday’s gusty winds and blowing snow led to icy roads, which caused problems for many drivers.  The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office responded to ten crashes which included two rollover accidents that occurred within a ¼ mile of each other.

71 year old Kenneth Northrop of Floyd lost control of his vehicle while heading westbound on the Avenue.  Northrop entered the median, rolling the car once and landing on its wheels.

Shortly after, 41 year old Darrel Decker of Charles City was westbound when his vehicle lost control, entered the median and rolled onto its side.  No one was injured in either accident.  Total damage to both vehicles is estimated at $10,000.

The Sheriff’s Office also responded to a Charles City Schools District bus that slid partially into a ditch after trying to make room on the road for a plow.  No injuries were reported.
