CHARLES CITY- Charles City High School Student Harry Sheckler says playing the piano isn’t just a hobby, it’s a passion. Sheckler, who is 17, has been playing piano since he was six. With more than 11 years of experience, Sheckler has had time to improve and develop his skill.
Sheckler says playing piano is a way of life as he practices anywhere between 6 and 8 hours a day.
Sheckler recently was awarded first place at the Terrace Hill Piano Competition in Des Moines. As a first place recipient in the Senior Division, Sheckler was awarded the First Lady’s Scholarship by Christine Branstad.
Sheckler says he has future plans on continuing his passion for piano.
The Terrace Hill Piano Competition will broadcast on Iowa Public Television sometime in April.
