The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is coming back to Charles City this Saturday. In what has become a regular event for the St. Patty’s Day festivities in Charles City started 21 years ago. John Morris, a resident of Charles City, talks about the origin of the parade.
The parade route has been altered over the years and so has its participants, but Morris says some staples of the parade have emerged over the years.
Another tradition of the parade is the crowning of Miss Shamrock. This year’s Miss Shamrock is Laura Wallace of Charles City who was crowned yesterday. She will ride along in the parade along with anybody else who wants to be involved. Morris says its easy for any person, business, or organization to join in the parade fun.
KCHA will be participating in this year’s parade and Tad Barry will broadcast live from inside the KCHA vehicle as he rolls down the parade route. Anyone else who wants to join in the fun – just show up at The Oliver Tap at about 5:15 like Morris advised and the parade will begin at 5:30
