A presentation on understanding media and its effects on the family will be presented in Charles City on Wed April 30. Dr Douglas Gentile, a child psychologist from Iowa State University and Peter Komendowski, of the Iowa Media Literacy Project will be working together with parents and youth to help them better understand the role that media plays today and its impact on our daily lives. Komendowski says that kids really want to make good choices and when they understand how media works it is often an “aha” moment”:
The program is designed for Parents as well as middle and high schoolers and offers tips and techniques for healthy interactions with media:
Parents and students are encouraged to attend together but all are welcome. The program will be presented Wed evening from 6 to 7:30 pm at St Johns Lutheran church in Charles City and is free of charge. For more information contact the church at 228-3397.
