Memorial Ribbons spark new policy in CC

Charles City, IA – Routine clean up around town has sparked an outcry among some Charles City residents who had put up Ribbons in memory of loved ones. City Administrator Steve Diers says that currently there is no set policy on the issue and it was just a matter of tidying things up, but now the city is looking into setting up guidelines:

Diers says they definitely respect the reasons why people want to place the ribbons but there needs to be something in place to address how long ribbons should remain in place, particularly when they become worn and falling down:

There is also an issue that needs to be resolved of memorial ribbons potentially be confused with the current tagging system for utility poles that need service work.
