Charles City, IA – Immaculate Conception elementary’s annual Milk & Cookies fundraiser was held Thursday and it was a huge success. This was the 3rd year that the first graders have gotten together to raise money for juvenile diabetes. Lori Field is the mother of 8 yr old Shelby who suffers from the disease and talks about how the event got started and what it means to kids like Shelby:
Lori says that 2 yrs ago when she helped with the fundraiser for Myles and talked to his mother Jenny Tjaden, she had no idea that they would be dealing with it firsthand just 6 months down the road. She went on to talk about some of what they deal with on a day to day basis:
Shelby is a second grader at Immaculate Conception school which has a student body of 175 students. Lori Field said the support of Jennifer Tjaden and her family has been a God send to her family.
Last year the kids raised just over $2200 and were awarded a school sleepover
This years total was $3422.04 which earned them a school sleepover with a pizza and ice cream party.
