After round one of two, the Charles City Comet girls golf team sits in third place overall with 376 team strokes. The Comets are two strokes behind Mount Pleasant for second place and are 24 strokes of the leader Cedar Rapids Xavier. Xavier had the low two individuals after day one with Charles City’s Megan Joeger currently in fourth place. Joeger shot an opening round score of 82 which puts 9 strokes behind the leader. The next three Comets are bunched together and they are Sydney Etherington who shot a 96 yesterday, Addie Crawford carded a 97, and Alicia Ruzich finished with a 101. The Comets will conclude the state meet today at Ames Golf and Country Club with another 18 hole round.
The Nashua Plainfield girl’s golf team finds themselves in fourth place after day one with a team score of 379. The Huskies are 31 strokes behind leader Dike-New Hartford, but are only five strokes behind second place Alta Aurelia. Sarah McMichael had an impressive opening round as she shot a 75 for round one which puts her in a first place tie with Dike-New Hartford’s Ashley Dumler. Kayla Dietz is currently 20th after her first round score of 94, Jamie Baldwin and Kelsey Poppe each shot a 105 yesterday to round out the scoring for the Huskies. Nashua will finish up the state meet today at American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown.
