Theft reported at local PAWS Shelter

CHARLES CITY, IA – A break in and theft has been reported at PAWS Humane Society in Charles City. On Sunday when a volunteer showed up at PAWS at 6am it was discovered that one of the dogs was missing and the padlock on his outdoor run had been cut. Jeff Nordman discovered that Pete was missing and talks about how he was when he first came to PAWS:

It appears that Pete was specifically targeted, as he was the only animal taken. Shelter staff are working with the local police and hoping to get him back:

Nordman says its very hard for everyone at the Shelter and the staff and volunteers feel violated by the invasion and sad, like they have “let down” one of their beloved pets by not being able to protect them:

Pete is described as a Neutered Male Pitbull Mix weighing approximately 57lbs and about  2 yrs old. His markings are: light brown brindle w/ white chest. And he is Very friendly. If you have any information on the whereabouts of Pete or the break in, contact the Charles City Police Dept or PAWS Shelter at (641) 257-0766  or go to
