CHARLES CITY, IA – Charles City residents may have noticed the new pedestrian crosswalk markers in the middle of some high traffic locations around town and are wondering What up with that? Police Chief Mike Wendel says many people, both drivers and pedestrians are not clear about who has the right of way at crosswalks and the city wants to clarify that:

So remember if you see a pedestrian at a crosswalk remember to stop for them, as they have the right of way.

The Charles City Police Dept is joining other departments across the country to host another popular National Night Out. The program has been well received in the past and Wendel says it’s a great way for people to get familiar with what services are available in the community:

National Night Out is free and open to the public. It will be held in Charles City on Tues Evening Aug 5th from 5:30 until 8:00 in Central Park.
