Judge sets $1 million bond in Iowa woman’s death

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — A judge has set a $1 million bond for a Waterloo man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1moYOTd ) 36-year-old Shaun Michael Hogan appeared Friday via a closed-circuit monitor at the Linn County District Court in Cedar Rapids on a charge of first-degree murder.

Authorities say Hogan killed 29-year-old Crystal Marie Gaffney, also of Waterloo. She is the mother of Hogan’s infant daughter.

Hogan was found Wednesday morning in the middle of a road near Walker. An autopsy determined she died of head trauma. Hogan was arrested Thursday.

Court records show Hogan and Gaffney were involved in a child custody matter.
