Charles City, IA – As another Fair Season comes to a close in Floyd County, a long time fair attendee talks about how things used to be, compared to today. Betty Staudt of rural Marble Rock, called a fair historian by many, says she’s been coming to the Floyd Co Fair for at least 60 years and recalls joining 4H when she was 7 or 8 yrs old and says things were quite different back then:
Betty says that back then showing animals was pretty much just for the boys, but over the years her own kids and grandkids have gotten a lot out of 4H and she believes that it continues to be a wonderful program:
These days Betty remains very involved with the fair and the open show is one of her pet projects which she and Karen Thomas are in charge of:
She says they had about the same number no of entries as last year but they would love to see more. She encourages everyone to check out the many different areas that you can enter into the open show and remind everyone that its never too early to start planning for next years fair.
