Theresa B. Dietrich, 78, Charles City

Newspaper DietrichTheresa B. Dietrich, 78, of Charles City, died following a stroke Monday, July 21, 2014, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City surrounded by her loving family.

A funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Reverend Gary Mayer will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Alta Vista at 1:30 p.m.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2014, where a Scripture Service will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.

Theresa Barbara (Blong) Dietrich was born January 10, 1936, on a farm near St. Lucas, Iowa to Paul and Margaret (Balk) Blong. When she was one year old, the family moved to a farm near Waucoma. Theresa attended St. Mary’s School through eighth grade and graduated from Waucoma High School in 1953. Theresa was united in marriage to Paul J. Dietrich on April 4, 1956 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waucoma. After marriage they lived four years southwest of Charles City moving to a farm near Alta Vista in 1960. The couple lived near Alta Vista until retiring in 2002 and moving to Charles City. Theresa was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City and was a member of the Rosary Society and St. Theresa Circle. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, crocheting, quilting, sewing, embroidering, playing cards, and baking, especially Kolaches for special events and chocolate chip cookies.

Living family members include her husband of 58 years, Paul of Charles City; eight children: Betty Dietrich of New Hampton; Gerald Dietrich of Austin, Minnesota, Joan (Larry) Lee of Calmar, Diana (Steve) Urban of Indianapolis, Indiana, Michael Dietrich of Charles City, David (Mary) Dietrich of Pleasant Hill, Mark (Heather) Dietrich of Stuttgart, Germany and Maria (Dave) Rankin of Pleasant Hill; 13 grandchildren; sister, Helen (Bernard) Franzen of St. Lucas; three brothers: Lawrence Blong of Decorah, Robert (Lily) Blong of Manchester and Raymond (Charlotte) Blong of Waucoma; along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Albert.
