Normand Charles Klemesrud was born in Charles City, the son of James Reginald and Helen Maxine (Hansen) Klemesrud. He was one of five children. He was baptized at Rock Creek Lutheran Church and was confirmed at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. He graduated from Charles City High School with the class of 1965. He proudly served his country by joining the U.S. Navy and was Honorably Discharged in 1971 after serving in the Mediterranean. Normand then furthered his education at University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and then received his Juris Doctor degree from Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, MN. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Linda Ann Link on February 17, 1968, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. To this union three children were born.

Over the years, Normand served the citizens of Floyd County in multiple capacities, including Magistrate, Juvenile Referee, and as County Attorney. In addition, he provided legal counsel for the Floyd County Memorial Hospital and many individuals during his years in private practice.

At the time of his death, he was a member of the Floyd County Bar Association, Iowa State Bar Association, Iowa County Attorneys Association, American Legion, the Floyd County Democratic Party, Charles City Elks Lodge and St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church where he currently served as a deacon. Normand took pleasure in cooking at the church for Wednesday night suppers. He especially loved cooking for more than two people and creating new recipes. He enjoyed fishing, pontooning, and camping at the family lots on the lake in Nashua with his family and side-kick chocolate lab, Quinn Avery. He loved relaxing on the front porch at home while visiting and spending time with family and friends. He was an avid reader and writer. Normand enjoyed traveling in his earlier years and was looking forward to traveling again in retirement.

Normand’s great knowledge of the law was eclipsed only by his strong sense of fairness. He never wavered in his pursuit of justice and he believed that one should always do the right thing, no matter how difficult or unpopular it was.

Normand is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda Ann; three children, Nathaniel Elihu Klemesrud, Charles City, Jason Carl Klemesrud, St. Lois Park, MN and Kari Marie Klemesrud and her fiancé Matt Bluhm; five grandchildren, Tyler Elihu, Madison Marie, Samantha Rose, and Teagan Marie.
