CCHS Drama Department to Present Musical

CHARLES CITY, IA – The CCHS Drama Department is proud to announce the fall musical production of FOOTLOOSE, based on the stage adaptation by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie, music by Tom Snow, and Lyrics by Dean Pitchford.

The performances will be Friday, November 7, and Saturday, November 8, at 7:30 pm in the Charles City Middle School Auditorium.  The directors are Jen Burton, Brad Beale, and Linda Brant.   A student orchestra will be conducted by Erik Hoefer with Tricia Baxter as the pianist.

Auditions will be held on Tuesday, September 2nd, and Thursday, September 4th, from 3:30 – 5 pm and 6 pm – 7:30 pm in the High School Choir Room.  Scripts that include the musical numbers will be available for checkout after school resumes.  The directors would like a cast of 30 to 40 students. All high school students are welcome to audition. There are no children’s parts in this musical.

More information will be presented to the high school students attending the fall Drama Club meeting to be held on Thursday, August 28th, at 7:00 pm on the Charles City Middle School stage.

The story is of a teenage boy, Ren, and his mother who move from Chicago to a small conservative farming town. Ren is prepared for the adjustment to his new high school.  What he isn’t prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.

To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score (the soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 15 million copies!) FOOTLOOSE celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.
