Red Cross Says Blood Supplies Getting Short

Donating Blood

Des Moines, Iowa – Shortages are beginning to appear at some hospitals, so officials with the American Red Cross are urging eligible donors in Iowa to give blood or platelets. Agency spokeswoman Sue Thesenga says May is Trauma Awareness Month.

She notes, someone in the U-S needs blood every two seconds.

Donors of all blood types are needed.

The Charles City High School will be hosting a blood drive on Friday between 7am and 2pm. To make an appointment to donate blood at that event, call 641-257-8931. To find other blood drive nearest you, visit redcrossblood.org.
