West Union, Iowa – A Hampton man is accused of having sex with a minor while knowing he was H-I-V-positive.

Authorities say 33-year-old Ismael Alfaro got to know a young woman online through a social media site and then later arranged to meet in person in March.

Alfaro then allegedly picked up the girl and drove to a hotel in Oelwein, where police say he admitted having unprotected sex with the girl knowing he was HIV-positive. Authorities later confirmed Alfaro’s diagnosis using medical records.

Alfaro is accused of third-degree sexual abuse and criminal transmission of an infectious disease. Alfaro was arrested in Hampton on May 4th.

He’s being held in the Fayette County Jail on $50-thousand cash-only bond. Online court records show his arraignment is scheduled for May 25th.
