Baseball on the Pitchers Mound Close Up with room for copy

In a game heard right here on KCHA Friday night, the Charles City Comet baseball team was in Waverly taking on the Go-Hawks in the Class 3A District 5 Semi-Final.  Waverly was able to put a five-spot on the board in the first inning to make the Comets play from behind.  Charles City was unable to get any offense going against Waverly pitcher Andrew Epley as the Comets had just two base runners all game.  Waverly put another five-spot on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game early as they led it 10-0 ending Charles City’s season.  Theo Arndt had the Comets’ only hit of the ball game and Nate Lasher came on in relief in the first inning and pitched three and a third scoreless innings before the Go-Hawks got to him in the fifth.  Charles City baseball finishes their season with a record of 7-20 while Waverly will take on Decorah tonight in the District Final.

In other area postseason baseball action over the weekend, the New Hampton Chickasaw baseball team hosted North Fayette Valley in a Class 2A District 6 Final.  The Chickasaws and Tiger-Hawks were knotted at zero for the first half of the game as Trevor Ambrose of New Hampton and Trevor Hurd of North Fayette were in a pitcher’s duel.  The Chickasaws struck first as Carter Stochl hit a double which would score Keegan Tenge and Ryan Gorman and New Hampton led it 2-0 after five innings.  The Chickasaws would add an insurance run in the sixth inning and Ambrose would make the lead hold up as New Hampton won the District 6 Championship 3-0.  Ambrose finished the game giving up just one hit and struck out nine in his seven innings on the mound.  New Hampton improves to 29-4 overall this season and moves on to play Denver tomorrow night in the Sub State Final.
