KCHA Sports Report (7/20)

Rain pounded the Fort Dodge area yesterday which led to a postponement of all the State Softball games.  The Charles City Comet softball team was supposed to play in the Class 4A tournament, but instead will kick off their 2016 Championships today at the Rogers Sports Complex.  The Comets will take on Carlisle at 1:30 on Mittera Field.  Charles City received the eight seed in Class 4A while Carlisle earned the top seed.  You can tune into this game right here on KCHA starting with a pregame at 1:15.

The Central Springs Panther softball team will also begin their State Tournament quest today as they get set to do battle in the Class 2A Tournament.  The Panthers, who are the six seed will take on third seeded Logan-Magnolia at 11am.  You can tune into that game on our sister station 987 KISS Country starting with a pregame at about 10:45.

In a game heard on our sister station 951 The Bull last night the New Hampton Chickasaw baseball team was in Waverly competing in the Class 2A Sub State 3 Finals against Denver.  The Cyclones jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as starting Chickasaw pitcher Ryan Gorman gave up the two runs on just one hit in the first inning.  The Chickasaws cut the lead in half with a Gorman run in the second and they tied the game in the third on an RBI by Josh Fenske which scored Trevor Ambrose.  The score remained tied at two through the seventh inning which forced the game into extras.  Denver would have an offensive explosion in the top of the eighth as they scored eight runs in the frame.  The Chickasaws failed to score in the bottom of the eighth and the game ended with a score of 10-2 in favor of Denver.  The New Hampton baseball team finishes their season with a Northeast Iowa Conference Championship and an overall record of 29-5.
