Two Charles City Comet alumni and one graduate from Nashua-Plainfield competed in the Iowa Women’s Amateur Championships over the weekend which was held at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City. Jessie Sindlinger, a 2013 graduate from Charles City and Megan Joerger, 2014 graduating Comet along with Sarah McMichael who graduated from Nashua in 2015 were up against some stiff competition at the Iowa Amateur which consisted of three 18-hole rounds. Sindlinger led the field after the first round on Friday as she shot a one-under 71, while Joerger found herself in the middle of the pack after her first round was an 81 and McMichael shot a 79 on the first day to put her in the top fifteen. Sindlinger led after the second round on Saturday by three strokes as she shot a 75 and Joerger again shot an 81 and held her ground and McMichael dropped a couple of spots after her 81 on day two. Sindlinger shot a 71 in yesterday’s final round to claim the championship as she finished at least six strokes ahead of the rest of the field. Joeger finished her tournament with an 85 to finish the weekend in a tie for 22nd place. McMichael had a 75 for her final round which catapulted her into the top ten. Sindlinger will enter her fourth year at Iowa while Joerger will be in her third at Upper Iowa and McMichael will begin her second year at UNI. All three of these ladies are members of their school’s golf teams.
