The Nashua-Plainfield Husky volleyball team hosted Rockford last night in the Top of Iowa Conference opener for each team.  The Huskies were able to win the first two games 25-20 and 25-22.  The Warriors stormed back to win games three and four by scores of 25-16 and 25-23 setting up a fifth game.  Nashua would go on to win the deciding game 15-10 and take the match.  With the win, Nashua volleyball improves to 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play while Rockford drops to 1-1 and 0-1.  Nashua will next be in action on Tuesday at Northwood-Kensett.  Rockford will also play again Tuesday when they host West Fork.

The Osage Green Devil volleyball team was able to dominate Mason City Newman Catholic last night in their opener as they didn’t allow the Knights to score double digit points in any game.  Scores went 25-4, 25-8, and 25-5 giving the Green Devils the 3-0 sweep.  Osage was able to record 34 kills and 19 aces as a team as they move to 1-0 overall and in Top of Iowa Conference play.  The Green Devils will return to action Tuesday night at Central Springs.

The North Butler Bearcat volleyball team suffered a season-opening loss last night as they were at home against Northwood-Kensett.  The match went back and forth as Northwood took the first game 25-23, the Bearcats then won game two 25-23, Northwood grabbed a 25-18 win in game three, the Bearcats were winners of game four 25-20 and Northwood game five 15-9 and the match three games to two.  North Butler volleyball begins their season at 0-1 overall and in conference play and they will look to get that first team victory this weekend in Clarion.

The Saint Ansgar Saints volleyball team was in a close match as well last night as they at home for a Top of Iowa Conference match-up with Central Springs.  The Panthers took game one 25-23, the Saints were winners of game two 30-28 and game three 25-16 to take a 2-1 match lead, but Central Springs would win game four 25-22 and then beat the Saints 15-8 in the deciding game five to take the match 3 games to two.  Saint Ansgar opens the season at 0-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play and they will be in action again on Tuesday against Decorah.

Well, it’s finally here, week one of the High School Football season, here is the schedule of our area teams.  The Charles City Comet football team will open up the season at home tonight against New Hampton.  You can tune into this game right here on KCHA starting with a pregame at about 7 and kickoff is scheduled for 7:30.

Nashua-Plainfield will also open up the season at home tonight as they welcome in Postville.  Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 7pm.

The Osage Green Devil football team will open up their season at Saint Ansgar.  This game can be heard on our sister station 987 KISS Country starting with a pregame at about 7:15.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30.

The North Butler Bearcat football team will open their season on the road as they will travel to Starmont.  Opening kickoff will be at 7pm.

The Rockford Warrior football team will have a home game to start the season.  Central Springs will be their opponent and this game will also kickoff at 7pm.
