In a game heard right here on KCHA on Friday night, the Charles City Comet football team hosted Vinton-Shellsburg in a Class 3A District 3 contest.  Vinton was able to strike first with a first quarter touchdown, but that lead did not last long as Jaden Foster returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown and the extra point gave the Comets a 7-6 lead.  The Vikings would march right down the field in their next drive and scored another touchdown making the score 12-7.  Charles City would score right before halftime as the Comets executed a double pass which Mike Cranshaw found Tre Walker for a touchdown and Charles City led it 14-12 at the half.  The second half belonged to Charles City as Zion Jordan went around the corner for a long touchdown run to run the Comets’ lead to 21-12.  The Comet D would make the big plays in the second half as well as they forced two fumbles and got two interceptions.  Dylan Koresh ran in a score late in the game to cap the victory for the Comets by a score of 27-12.  Charles City football improves to 3-3 overall and they are 3-1 in District play.  The Comets will travel to Van Horne this Friday to take on Benton Community.

The Nashua-Plainfield Husky football team was at home Friday night as they welcomed in West Fork for a Class A District 3 match-up.  The Huskies would get two touchdowns in the game, but the War-Hawks found the end zone four times as they beat the Huskies 28-14.  The Husky football team drops to 2-3 overall on the season and they are now 1-2 in District play.  Next up for Nashua will be a road contest this Friday night at Grundy Center.

The Osage Green Devil football team welcomed in Forest City on Friday night for a home Class 2A District 2 meeting.  Junior Green Devil quarterback Riley Olson threw two touchdown passes and ran for another, but it wasn’t enough as Forest City was able to beat Osage 27-18.  Olson’s rushing touchdown was a one yard plunge and he found Kyle Berge for both of his passing touchdowns.  Berge finished the night with 101 receiving yards.  The Green Devils are now 1-5 overall this season and they drop to 0-4 in District play.  They will look for that first District with this Friday night at home against New Hampton.

The North Butler Bearcat football team hosted Rockford on Friday night in a Class A District 3 tilt.  The game featured plenty of offense and when it was all said and done it was the Bearcats who were victorious by a score of 48-36.  The win was the North Butler’s first District win of the season as they are now 2-3 overall this season and 1-2 in District play.  The Warriors remain winless as they fell to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in the District.  North Butler will be at West Fork this Friday night and Rockford will host West Hancock.

The top-ranked Saint Ansgar Saints football team took down Grundy Center at home on Friday night as their rushing attack continued its dominance.  The Saints gained over 350 yards rushing in route to a 47-21.  Dayton Smith had 190 rushing yards and three touchdowns and Parker Hendrickson rushed for 161 yards and two touchdowns.  Saint Ansgar football improves to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in Class A District 3.  The Saints will travel to Mason City this Friday night to take on the Newman Knights.

The Charles City Comet volleyball team hosted a Varsity tournament on Saturday in which they went 5-1.  The Comets took down Oelwein, Wapsie Valley, South Winneshiek, Tripoli, and Jesup with their lone loss coming at the hands of Janesville.  The Comet volleyball team is now 21-4 overall this season and they will return to action tomorrow night at home against Waukon.
