The Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union opened up its 2016 Regional Volleyball Tournament last night with Classes 1A and 2A holding opening round matches.  The Saint Ansgar Saints volleyball team hosted Nashua-Plainfield last night in a Class 2A Region 6 first round match-up.  Saint Ansgar won the first game 25-18, the Saints won game two 25-13, Nashua was able to take game three 26-24 and then Saint Ansgar took the fourth game 25-13 to take the match three games to one.  Madison Eibes led the Saint Ansgar offense with 23 kills, Tara Kramer had 39 assists for the Saints and as a team Saint Ansgar had 12 ace serves.  Sierra Fisher had 8 kills to lead Nashua and Britney Holthaus had 17 digs for the Huskies.  Nashua finishes their season with a record of 5-20 while Saint Ansgar improved to 14-10 overall.  The Saints will play in the Regional Quarterfinals on Monday at Lake Mills.

The North Butler Bearcat volleyball team was at home last night for a Class 1A Region 5 opener against CAL.  The Bearcats were able to sweep their way into the quarterfinals by scores of 25-11, 25-13 and 25-8.  Darby Christensen led the Bearcats will 11 kills and Nicole Heeren and Kayla Siemens each had nine.  The Bearcats went 70-74 serving with 18 aces on the night to help them even up their overall record to 16-16.  North Butler will play in the Region 5 Quarterfinal at home on Monday against Northwood-Kensett.

The Rockford Warrior volleyball team was at home for a Class 2A Region 3 opening round match-up against West Fork.  The match went back-and-forth as West Fork won the first game 25-14, Rockford won game two 25-23, West Fork took game three 25-17, Rockford tied the match at two games apiece by winning game four 25-21, but West Fork won game five 15-7 to take the match three games to two.  Rockford was led by Skylar Schmitt who had 17 kills, Amber Staudt and Morgan Thieman each had 21 digs, and Marissa Norby went 20-20 serving with four aces.  The Warrior volleyball team finishes their season with a record of 11-15.

The Osage Green Devil volleyball team will open up its postseason tournament tonight as they will host Clear Lake in a Class 3A Region 6 Quarterfinal.  The Green Devils come in with a record of 20-11 while Clear Lake finished the regular season with a record of 9-22.  First serve from Osage will be at 7pm.
