The Iowa High School Athletic Association wrapped up its 2016 football regular season on Friday night.  The Charles City Comet football team was in Waverly taking on a Go-Hawk team that was trying to get an at-large bid into the postseason.  The game was rough for the Comets from the get-go as Waverly used its speed to continuously get outside the Comet defense.  Waverly would easily walk away with the victory 55-7.  The lone Comet touchdown came on an 81-yard sprint by Jaden Foster.  Dalton Cleveland had an interception in the end zone as the Go-Hawks were driving, but that was the extent of the Charles City highlights.  The Comets finished their season with a record of 3-6 overall and were 3-4 in Class 3A District 3.

The Nashua-Plainfield Husky football team was at West Hancock for their final game of the season on Friday night.  The Huskies struggled on offense as they failed to gain 100 yards of total offense and the Nashua defense could not stop the West Hancock rushing attack and were shut out 63-0.  Nashua football finished their 2016 season with an overall record of 3-6 and they went 2-5 in Class A District 3.

The North Butler Bearcat football team was also shut out on Friday night as they wrapped up their season on the road against Mason City Newman Catholic.  The Bearcats fell 40-0 to finish their season with a record of 2-7 and they went 1-6 in Class A District 3.

The Rockford Warriors hosted top-ranked Saint Ansgar on Friday night for their season finale.  The Saints won the game 67-0 to finish an unblemished regular season.  The Saints scored seven rushing touchdowns and had two passing touchdowns on the night as they over-powered the Warriors.  Rockford finished their season winless at 0-9 overall and they went 0-7 in Class A District 3.  Saint Ansgar improved to 9-0 overall and 7-0 in District play.  The Saints will open up the 2016 playoffs this Friday with a home game against Wapsie Valley.

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union will continue its 2016 Regional Tournaments tonight with Classes 1A and 2A holding their quarterfinal matches.  The North Butler Bearcat volleyball team will host Northwood-Kensett tonight in a Class 1A Region 5 Quarterfinal.  The Bearcats are 16-16 overall this season while Northwood-Kensett comes in at 13-13.  The Vikings defeated North Butler way back on August 25th in a close match that went 5 games.  First serve from Greene tonight will be at 7pm.

The Saint Ansgar Saints volleyball team will be at Lake Mills tonight for a Class 2A Region 6 Quarterfinal.  The Saints are 14-10 overall this season while Lake Mills comes in ranked fourth in Class 2A and have a perfect 39-0 record.  First serve for this match will also be at 7pm.
