Local Law Enforcement Participating In STEP Program Through Sunday

Chickasaw County Sheriff Marty Hemann

New Hampton, Iowa – Chickasaw County sheriff-elect and Chief Deputy Marty Hemann said during the Thanksgiving holiday, law enforcement will partner with Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau to ensure a safe holiday weekend.

Hemann explained what deputies will be looking for with the STEP program.

Hemann said funding for the program comes from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau to allow deputies to work overtime during the holiday weekend.

Hemann explained what kind of equipment his department can purchase through the funding.

Hemann said there is no cost to county taxpayers for the additional deputy hours or newly-purchased equipment.

Hemann said he and his deputies just want to make sure drivers are safe throughout the holiday weekend.

Hemann said one of the primary parts of the STEP program is ensuring safety belt usage.

Hemann stressed that seat belts do save lives.

Buckle up, keep the speeds down and have a safe holiday travel.
