Basketball With Dark Background On A Wood Gym Floor

The Charles City Comet boys basketball team opened up their season at home last night against Dike-New Hartford.  Charles Cit shot out of the gate as they opened the game on a 13-0 run.  The Wolverines would hold steady and got within four in the second half, but the Comets were able to pull away at the end and won the game by a score of 59-45.  Cade Hemaseth led the Comets as he had 21 points while Jackson Molstead finished with 16 points.  The Charles City boys basketball team begins the season at 1-0 and will have their next game tomorrow at home against Algona.

The North Butler Bearcat wrestling team hosted a quadrangular meet that included Nashua-Plainfield, Mason City Newman and Crestwood.  Both the Bearcats and Huskies went 1-2 at the meet as North Butler beat Newman 40-30, but lost to Nashua-Plainfield 39-36 and to Crestwood 65-9.  The Huskies were defeated by Newman 60-24 and lost to Crestwood 75-6.  The Bearcats will wrestle again next Thursday at Rockford while the Huskies will be in action again tomorrow at the Wapsie Valley Tournament.

The Osage Green Devil wrestling team hosted a quadrangular meet last night with Rockford, Lake Mills and Central Springs coming to town.  The Green Devils went 1-2 at the meet as they defeated Rockford 54-27, but lost to Central Springs 46-36 and Lake Mills 63-18.  The Osage wrestling team will be in action again tomorrow in a tournament hosted by Independence.

There will be plenty of action tonight for our local winter sports teams.  The Charles City Comet boys and girls bowling teams will have their first road test of the season tonight as they will travel to Denver.  Both the Comet boys and girls bowlers are 1-0 on the season.  The meet will start at 4pm.

The Nashua-Plainfield girls and boys basketball teams will be on the road tonight for Top of Iowa Conference match-ups.  The two Husky squads will take on Northwood-Kensett.  The Nashua girls are 0-2 overall this season and 0-1 in the conference while Northwood’s girls come in at 1-1 and 0-1.  The Husky boys are 0-1 overall and in conference play and the Vikings also sit at 0-1 overall and in the conference.  The Varsity girls will tip-off at about 6:15 with the boys game to follow.

The Osage Green Devil girls and boys basketball teams will also be on the road tonight for Top of Iowa Conference games against Central Springs.  The Green Devil girls will come in with a record of 2-0 overall and they are 1-0 in league play while Central Spring’s girls are 1-0.  The Osage boys are both 1-0 overall and in the conference and Central Springs has identical 1-0 records.  You can tune into this game on our sister station 987 KISS Country starting with a pregame at about 6pm, then the girls will tip-off followed by the boys game.

The North Butler Bearcat boys and girls basketball teams will have road Top of Iowa Conference tests as well as they will be in Mason City taking on the Newman Knights.  North Butler’s girls come in at 1-0 while Neman’s girls sit at 0-1.  The Bearcat boys are 1-0 this season and the Newman boys are 0-1.  Tip-off for the girls game will be at 6:15 with the boys game to follow.

The Rockford Warrior girls and boys basketball teams will host West Fork tonight in Top of Iowa Conference action.  The Warrior girls come in at 2-0 overall and they are 1-0 in the conference while West Fork’s girls are 0-1.  The Rockford boys are 2-0 on the young season with a 1-0 conference record and the Warhawk boys are 0-1.  The girls game will tip-off at 6:15 with the boys game to follow.
