The Rockford Warrior girls and boys basketball teams were on the road last night for a Top of Iowa Conference double-header against Central Springs. In the boys game, the Warriors shot out of the gate and took a 27-10 lead after the first quarter and then coasted to an 87-48 win. Zach Bushbaum led Rockford with 25 points, Matt Muller had 23 points off the bench for the Warriors. The Rockford boys improve to 6-1 overall this season and they are now 4-1 in the conference. The girls game was a bit more tight, as Rockford trailed 25-21 at halftime. The Warrior girls would turn it on in the second half to win the game 52-47 and keep their perfect record. Emma Staudt had 24 points to lead Rockford and Madison McGregor added 13. The Warrior girls are now 7-0 overall and they improve to 5-0 in the conference. Both teams will be in action tonight at home against Saint Ansgar. The girls game will tip-off at about 6:15 and the boys game will follow.
Other games going on in our area include: the Charles City Comet boys basketball team will host New Hampton in a Northeast Iowa Conference contest. The Comet boys are 5-0 overall this season and they are 1-0 in the NEIC while New Hampton’s boys are 1-3 and 0-1. The Nashua-Plainfield girls and boys basketball teams will host North Butler tonight in a Top of Iowa Conference double-header. The Nashua girls are 1-6 overall this season and they are 1-4 in the conference while the Bearcat girls are 2-4 and 2-3. The Husky boys come into their match-up with a 2-4 overall record and they are 2-3 in conference play while North Butler’s boys have identical 2-4 and 2-3 records. The girls game will be played first and tip-off right around 6:15 and the boys game will follow.
The Osage Green Devil girls and boys basketball team will be on the road tonight for a Top of Iowa Conference double-header at West Fork. The Green Devil girls come in with a record of 5-0 overall and they are 4-0 in conference games while the West Fork girls are 4-2 and 3-1. The Osage boys are also a perfect 5-0 overall this season and they are 4-0 in the conference while the War-Hawk boys are 5-1 overall and they come in undefeated in Top of Iowa Conference play at 4-0. The girls game will tip-off at about 6:15 and the boys game will tip off at about 7:30.
The North Butler and Rockford wrestling teams will compete tonight in a quadrangular meet hosted by Crestwood. North Fayette Valley will be the fourth team at the meet which will begin at 5:30.
