Wilbur Hubert Simon, age 83, of Stacyville, died Sunday January 8, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa in Mason City.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be at Visitation Catholic Cemetery. Military Honors by the Stacyville American Legion Post 569. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville.
Wilbur was born December 29, 1933, in Osage the son of Joseph and Christina (Halfman) Simon. He attended Visitation School in Stacyville. He served in the US Army from 1955 to 1957. Wilbur was united in marriage to Charlotta Winkels on July 2, 1966, at Brownsdale, Minnesota, they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2016. He worked for Oliver/White Farm and then retired from Croell Redi Mix. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and was an avid NASCAR and Tony Stewart fan. He loved telling jokes. Wilbur enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family. He was known as the uncle with the “candy machine”.
Wilbur is survived by his wife, Charlotta Simon of Osage; three daughters, Audrey (Robert) Umstead of Orchard,
June (David) Retterath of McIntire, Carol (Jason) Tesch of St. Ansgar; two sons, Terry (Missy) Simon of Hastings, Minnesota, Ricky (Christal) Simon of St. Paul, Minnesota; eight Grandchildren; four sisters; one brother and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wilbur is preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael “Hoss” Simon in 2006; granddaughter, Cecilia “CeCe” Retterath in 2008; one sister and two brothers.
