Pill theft nets charges for Mason City nurse

Keri-Lea-Martinez

Osage, Iowa – A Mason City nurse has been accused of stealing painkillers from patients in two health care facilities.

Court records state that 33 year old Keri Lea Martinez was charged with four felony counts of prohibited acts, two misdemeanor counts of tampering with records and one misdemeanor count of 5th degree theft.

Records say Martinez stole Oxycodone pills from a Osage Rehab resident twice in July, falsifying records and also taking Tramadol from a resident of St. Ansgar’s Good Samaritan Society back in November and replacing it with Tylenol.

Investigators say she took Hydrocodone twice in November from the patient at Good Samaritan Society and signed documents indicating she had given it to the patient when she kept it for herself.
