KCHA Sports Report (1/18)

Scoring the winning points at a basketball game

We begin today’s report with a rundown of what was postponed for area events yesterday and their make-up dates.  The Charles City Comet boys basketball team had their game at Oelwein postponed for the second time last night.  The Comet boys are now set to travel to Oelwein on Tuesday January 31st.

The Charles City Comet wrestling team cancelled their home triangular meet with Denver and Clear Lake.  Last night’s meet was rescheduled once already and they decided to eliminate it from the schedule.

The Nashua-Plainfield Husky girls and boys basketball team were scheduled to be at Mason City Newman last night.  That girl/boy Top of Iowa Conference double-header will now be played tomorrow night in Mason City.

The Top of Iowa Conference double-header between Osage and Saint Ansgar in Osage will now also be played tomorrow night.

The North Butler Bearcat girls and boys basketball teams were scheduled to be in Manly last night for a Top of Iowa Conference double-header with Central Springs.  These teams will now meet up of February 6th.

Northern Iowa coach Ben Jacobson feels his team gained a much needed shot of confidence heading into Wednesday night’s Missouri Valley Conference at home against Loyola. The Panthers snapped a seven game losing skid and claimed their first league victory with a 79-60 win over Drake on Sunday.

Jacobson says the Panthers played with a lot more energy against Drake.

The Panthers are 1-5 in the Valley and lost the first game against the Ramblers 77-66 in Chicago two weeks ago.

Jacobson says the Panthers got beat on both ends of the court in the first meeting.
