Basketball With Dark Background On A Wood Gym Floor

The Rockford Warrior girls basketball team hosted Nashua-Plainfield last night in a Top of Iowa Conference match-up.  The Warrior girls had little trouble with Nashua as they won by a final score of 61-22.  Emma Staudt had 17 points to lead Rockford, Madison McGregor had 15 points and as a team, the Warrior girls finished the night with 14 steals.  With the win, the Rockford girls improve to 14-1 overall this season and they move to 10-1 in conference games while the Nashua girls fall to 2-13 and 1-11.  Rockford’s girls will play again tonight at Mason City Newman and the Husky girls will play tonight as well as they get set to travel to Saint Ansgar.

The Rockford Warrior boys basketball team was also dominant last night in their Top of Iowa Conference home game against Nashua-Plainfield.  The Warriors were winners by a final score of 74-24.  Zach Bushbaum led Rockford with 18 points, Alex Schriever and Jared Marth each had 12 points and Max Rooney had 11.  The Warrior boys improve to 10-5 overall this season and they are 7-4 in conference play while the Nashua boys drop to 5-9 and 4-8.  The Rockford boys will be on the road tonight at Mason City Newman and Nashua will hit the road as well tonight and travel to Saint Ansgar.

The Saint Ansgar Saints boys basketball team were Top of Iowa Conference winners last night over Central Springs on the road 68-33.  Ryan Peterson led five Saints in double figures as he finished the night with 13 points, Cole Willert had 12, Dylan Gooder had 11 and Justin Oakland and Ben Boerjan had ten points.  With the win, the Saints boys improve to 8-5 overall this season and they are 8-3 in league play.  They will be in action again tonight at home against Nashua.

The Saint Ansgar Saints girls basketball team was in Top of Iowa Conference action last night as they were in Manly taking on Central Springs.  Saint Ansgar’s girls held a three point lead at the end of the first quarter, but did not hold on to that lead very long and ended up losing the game 48-35.  The Saint girls are now 1-12 overall this year and they fall to 0-11 in the conference.  They will look for their first league win tonight at home against Nashua.

Other games on the area winter sports calendar tonight include the Osage Green Devil girls and boys basketball teams hosting North Butler in a Top of Iowa Conference double-header.  The Green Devil girls come in at 10-3 overall this season and they are 6-2 in the conference while North Butler’s girls enter tonight’s game 5-7 overall and 5-6 in conference play.  The Osage boys are a perfect 14-0 overall this season and are 10-0 in conference games.  The girls game will tip-off first at about 6:15 and the boys game will follow.
