Scoring the winning points at a basketball game

The Charles City Comet boys basketball team was on the road last night in West Union for a non-conference contest against North Fayette Valley.  The Comet boys were able to win their fourth straight as they beat the Tiger-Hawks 70-50.  The Charles City boys are now 13-4 overall this season and will be in action again tonight.  The Comet boys will be in Waverly for a Northeast Iowa Conference showdown.  You can tune into that game right here on KCHA starting with a pre-game at about 7:30 and tip-off is scheduled for 7:45.

The Charles City Comet girls basketball team was in non-conference road action last night as they were in Iowa Falls to take on the Cadets.  The Comet girls wound up on the losing end of a 52-42 score.  Charles City’s girls fall to 1-17 overall this season and will return to NEIC play tonight when they host Waverly.  Tip-off will be at around 7:30.

The Saint Ansgar Saints girls basketball team hosted Nashua-Plainfield last night in a Top of Iowa Conference game.  The Saints won the game by a final score of 47-34.  Jadyn Anderson had 23 points for Saint Ansgar to lead all scorers and Sierra Fisher led the Huskies with 17 points.  The Saint Ansgar girls are now 4-16 overall and they are 1-14 in conference play while the Husky girls fall to 3-18 and 1-13.  The Saints girls will host Mason City Newman tonight and the Nashua girls will host West Fork.

The Saint Ansgar Saints boys basketball team also picked up a win over Nashua-Plainfield last night at home in Top of Iowa Conference play.  They won the game by a final score of 68-47.  Ben Boerjan led the Saints with 21 points while Dayten Hanson led Nashua with 18 points.  The Saint boys have now won six straight and improve to 14-6 overall this season and they move to 11-4 in conference games with the Husky boys fall to 6-13 and 10-4.  The Saints will host the Knights of Mason City Newman tonight and Nashua’s boys will be at home to take on West Fork.

Other games in our area tonight include the Osage Green Devil girls and boys basketball teams will host Northwood-Kensett in a Top of Iowa Conference double-header.  The Green Devil girls come in at 15-4 overall and they are 12-3 in TIC games while Northwood’s girls are 9-11 and 7-8.  The Osage boys are 18-1 overall and 14-0 in league play while the Viking boys are 2-17 and 1-14.  The girls game will tip first at about 6:15 and the boys game will follow.

The North Butler Bearcat girls and boys basketball teams will be at home tonight for a Top of Iowa Conference double-header against Rockford.  The North Butler girls are 7-10 overall and 6-9 in conference games while the Warrior girls are 17-3 and 12-3.  The Bearcat boys are 6-11 overall and 6-8 in the conference while the Warrior boys come in at 12-8 and 8-7.  The girls game will begin at about 6:15 and the boys game will tip at around 7:30.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association will hold the Regional Duals tonight all over the state.  The Charles City Comet wrestling team will be in Denver tonight along with the Cyclones, Crestwood and Gilbert.  The Comets will face off with Denver at 6pm and if they win, will face the winner of Crestwood and Gilbert for the right to advance to the State Duals.

The Osage Green Devil wrestling team will be in New Hampton and square off against the top-rated Chickasaws.  If Osage is able to pull off the upset, they will wrestle for a State Duals berth against the winner of Clarion-Goldfield and Algona.  The first match will be at 6pm.

The Saint Ansgar Saints wrestling team will compete in a Class 1A Regional Dual in Lake Mills.  The Saints will take on Lake Mills at 6pm and if they win will take on the winner of Central Springs and West Hancock.
