Scoring the winning points at a basketball game

In a game heard right here on KCHA last night, the Charles City Comet girls basketball team was in Mason City for a Class 4A Region 7 Quarterfinal.  The Comet girls were able to hang around early and trailed 20-13 at the end of the first quarter, but the relentless Mohawk defensive pressure and pace led to the Comets losing the game 78-25.  Kelsi Crooks and Jodie Sindliger each had seven points to lead Charles City as they finish their season with a record of 1-20.  The Comet girls basketball program says goodbye to three seniors as Crooks, Gen Wandro and Baily Mitchell all played their final game last night.

The Osage Green Devil girls basketball team had their game about 15 miles from Charles City’s as they were in Clear Lake taking on the Lions in a Class 3A Region 5 Semi-Final.  In a defensive battle, the Green Devils led it just 19-18 at halftime, but scored a mere 13 points in the second half and wound up losing the game 35-32.  The Osage girls finish their season with a record of 17-5 and say good-bye to Melanie Bye and Jacey Goodale as those were the two seniors on the Green Devil roster.

The New Hampton Chickasaw wrestling team went 3-0 yesterday at the State Duals to win the Class 2A State Dual title.  They defeated Denver-Tripoli, Davenport Assumption and Solon in route to the trophy.  The traditional tournament begins today with first round and first round consolations being held in all classes.  KCHA will have live coverage of the Class 2A session which begins at 6pm, we will have hold-by-hold calls for Nate Lasher, Dylan Koresh, Alex Kohler and A.J. Maloy of Charles City and Joe Jacobs, Derek Fox, Zach Williams, Brock Jennings and Caleb Ring of Osage.  We will have live updates of the Class 1A session which begins at 1:30.  We will follow Bryce Trees, Brandon Trees and Dalton Nelson of North Butler, Will Portis and Dakota Vance of  Rockford and Saint Ansgar’s Mitchell Smith.

The Charles City Comet boys basketball team will wrap up their regular season tonight with a home game against Independence.  The Comet boys are 14-6 overall this season while the Mustangs come in with a record of 7-13.  The game will be played in the New Competition Gym and will begin at around 7:30.

The Nashua-Plainfield boys basketball team will continue their postseason tournament tonight as they get set to take on Don Bosco at AGWSR High School.  The Husky boys are 7-15 coming into this game while the Dons are 20-1.  Tip-off this Class 1A District 5 Quarter-Final is scheduled for 6:30.

The Osage Green Devil boys basketball team will begin their 2017 postseason tonight with a Class 2A District 4 Semi-Final at home against South Winneshiek.  The Green Devil boys went 20-1 during the regular season and South Winn comes in with a record of 6-16.  You can tune into this game on our sister station 987 KISS Country starting with a pre-game at about 7:45 and tip-off will be at around 8pm.

The North Butler Bearcat boys basketball team will be in Ackley tonight for their Class 1A District 5 match-up with AGWSR.  The North Butler boys finished the regular season at 7-13 while AGWSR enters this Quarter-Final at 14-6.

The Rockford Warrior boys basketball team will play in a Class 1A Region 4 Quarter-Final tonight in Sheffield against Lake Mills.  The Warriors come in at 13-8 and Lake Mills is 13-7.  Tip-off is will be at 6:30.

The Saint Ansgar Saints boys basketball team will be at home tonight for their Class 1A Region 4 Quarter-Final.  The Saints who are 14-7 will host a Northwood-Kensett team who is 2-19.  Tip-off for this one will be at about 8pm.
