The Iowa State Wrestling Tournament wrapped up over the weekend, here is how our area wrestlers ended up.  Charles City’s Nate Lasher, Alex Koehler, and A.J. Maloy all went 1-2 in the Class 2A Tournament which means the three seniors did not make the podium.  For Osage, Brock Jennings pinned Kyler Fisher in the first period in the 170 pound finals making him a Class 2A State Champion.  Caleb Ring of Osage placed fifth at 220 pounds for Osage which concluded the place-winners as Derek Fox at 152 went 1-2 at the Tournament.  In the Class 1A Tournament, Chance Throndson of Riceville defeated Blake Bauer 12-2 in the 132 pound finals to claim a State Championship as a junior, Dalton Nelson of North Butler placed fifth at 160 pounds, Will Portis of Rockford was fifth at 120 pounds, Dakota Vance of Rockford was 8th at 170 pounds, Zach Ryg was 6th at 182 pounds for Central Springs and Mitchell Smith of Saint Ansgar was fifth at 285 pounds.  Congratulations to all of our area wrestlers for another fine representation of North Iowa.

The Rockford Warrior girls basketball team was at home on Friday night for a Class 2A Region 5 Semi-Final against West Fork.  The Warrior girls took control of the game early and led 30-15 at halftime and then coasted to a 49-34 victory.  Morgan Thieman led Rockford with 14 points and Emma Staudt had 10 for the Warriors.  The Rockford girls basketball team improves to 20-3 on the season and they will take on North Linn tonight in the Regional Finals where the winner will advance to the State Tournament.

The Charles City Comet girls and boys bowling teams will compete in the Class 1A State Bowling Tournament today at Plaza Lanes in Des Moines.  You can tune into live updates of both the girls and the boys today with the meet starting at about 10:20.

The Charles City Comet boys basketball team will open up postseason play today at home.  The Comet boys will host Crestwood for a Class 3A District 6 Semi-Final.  Charles City’s boys went 15-6 during the regular season and the Cadets were 8-12.  These two teams split their regular season meetings as the Comets won in Cresco 54-32 on December 9th and then Crestwood won in Charles City 56-53 on January 20th.  You can tune into this game right here on KCHA starting with a pre-game at about 7:45 and tip-off is scheduled for 8pm.
