KCHA Sports Report (2/21)

Red bowling ball knocking over pins in a perfect strike

The Charles City Comet girls and boys bowling teams were in Des Moines yesterday competing at Plaza Lanes for the Class 1A State Bowling Tournament and were able to walk away with some hardware.  The Comet girls finished with a total pin count of 2837 which gave them a third place trophy and they had two medalists, Macy Ross had a 227 and a 211 for a 438 series which gave her third place overall and Katie Sickman had a 193 and a 202 which was good enough for seventh place with a 395.  On the boys side, Charles City finished with a 2893 which gave them fifth place as a team and Drew Mitchell tied for fourth as both of his games were 224 and he had a 448 series and Kaleb Ross was right behind him in sixth place with games of 222 and 223 for a 445 series.  Congratulations to both the Comet girls and boys bowling teams on another fantastic season.

In a game heard right here on KCHA last night, the Charles City Comet boys basketball team hosted Crestwood in a Class 3A District 6 Semi-Final.  The Comets played against the Cadets on the wrong night as Crestwood came out on fire and hit 8 three-pointers in the first half and led it 35-23 at halftime.  The Comets could not find any offensive rhythm in the second half either and managed just five points in the third quarter and ended up losing the game 60-37.  Charles City’s boys finish their season with a 15-7 record and say good-bye to seniors Jaden Foster and Dalton Cleveland who played in their final game last night.

The Rockford Warrior girls basketball team played against North Linn last night in a Class 2A Region 5 Final in Parkersburg.  The Warrior girls picked a bad time to have their worse offensive game of the season as they were defeated by a final score of 47-18 and wind up one game short of making the State Tournament.  Rockford’s girls finish their season with a record of 20-4 and will have to replace nine seniors from this year’s team.

The Osage Green Devil boys basketball team will be in Charles City tonight for their Class 2A District 4 Final against New Hampton.  The Green Devil boys are 21-1 coming into tonight’s game and the Chickasaws are 14-8.  You can tune into this game on our sister station 987 KISS Country starting with a pre-game at about 6:45 and tip-off is scheduled for 7pm.

The Saint Ansgar Saints boys basketball team will be in Sheffield tonight for their Class 1A District 4 Semi-Final against Mason City Newman Catholic.  Saint Ansgar’s boys are 15-7 overall this season and the Newman Knight boys have an identical 15-7 record.  These two teams faced each other twice this season with the Saints winning 70-62 on January 6th
