The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union began its 2017 State Basketball Tournament yesterday.  The defending Class 1A State Champion Springville was able to walk through their first game as they defeated Burlington Notre Dame 56-16.  Springville will play Kingsley-Pierson in the Semi-Finals as Kingsley defeated Marquette Catholic 65-61.  The Turkey Valley Trojans gave Janesville their first loss of the season as Turkey Valley won yesterday’s Quarter-Final 60-58.  In the final Class 1A first round game, Exira Elk Horn Kimballton beat Sidney 58-43 and advance to take on Turkey Valley in Thursday’s Semi-Finals.  Class 2A had three out of the four Quarter-Final games played yesterday.  Iowa City Regina bested Logan-Magnolia 67-54 to advance to the Semis to take on Western Christian as they defeated North Linn 58-48.  In the final game of the night, Treynor defeated Van Meter 60-54.  Treynor will face the winner of Central Decatur and Cascade on Thursday in the Semi-Finals.  Class 3A and half of the Class 4A Quarter-Finals will be played today.  Most notable, in the Class 3A Tournament, Crestwood will take on Cherokee at 1:30 and Clear Lake will play against Pocahontas Area at 5pm.

The Iowa State Cyclone Men’s Basketball team will be looking for their sixth win in a row tonight as they will welcome in the Cowboys of Oklahoma State.  The Cyclones entered the USA Today Top 25 yesterday and are ranked 24th.  Iowa State comes in with an overall record of 19-9 while OSU is 20-9.  The Cyclones defeated Oklahoma State in Stillwater back on January 11th 96-86.  You can tune into this game tonight right here on KCHA.
