UPDATE: Charley Western Trail Bridge partially collapses; Cedar River near bridge is also closed to activities

…Update at 9:32am on Monday April 10th…

Charles City City Administrator Steve Diers issued a follow up to the closure of the Charley Western Trail bridge over the Cedar River.

“Bridge is closed for the foreseeable future and we also want to make it known that the river in this area is closed as well.  No recreational activities including: boating, tubing, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming or general use of the river within 100 yards of the bridge.  We are working with bridge engineers to address the problem but want to make sure the public is aware of the potential danger of the bridge structurally and caution them to stay away.”
