Facebook posting causes concern in Chickasaw County

Chickasaw County Sheriff

New Hampton, Iowa – Rumors were circulating on Wednesday evening after a post on Facebook saying a fiery crash occurred involving a family in Chickasaw County. The post said several deaths were a result of the crash and also contained quotes from a supposed deputy of Chickasaw County.

The KCHA/Bull news department confirmed with Chickasaw County Sheriff Marty Hemann that the post on Facebook was completely fake news.

The radio station received a phone call regarding the post saying the stations were somehow affiliated with the post.

The KCHA/Bull news department only airs and publishes legitimate stories that come from reliable sources such as our local police departments and sheriff’s offices and had no affiliation with the fake news post.

Sheriff Marty Hemann reminds the public to be wary of clicking on certain posts on Facebook or other social media websites, as some posts are looking for personal information that may be obtained from cell phones or other devices.
