Klemme man faces several charges after high-speed chase in Cerro Gordo county

Cerro Gordo County – Cerro Gordo Deputies say a Klemme man was arrested after leading authorities on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle.

A deputy observed a suspicious vehicle in Rockwell at about 1:34am Tuesday morning. The vehicle took off at a high rate of speed.

Deputies say speeds reached 110mph at times.

The driver lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of 170th St and Yarrow Avenue and drove into a ditch where he and a passenger fled.

29-year-old Douglas Kalvig was taken into custody and is being charged with eluding, a Class D felony, operating while under the influence, an aggravated misdemeanor, interference with official acts, driving while barred, driving under suspension, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to obey a traffic control device.

Passenger 47-year-old David Hurst of Mason City was charged with interference with official acts.

The 2006 Chevy Silverado that was stolen earlier in the evening from Oelwein.

During the theft of the vehicle in Oelwein, a trailer and lawn mower were stolen with those items but were not yet recovered.
