Charles City, Iowa – Two area men were arrested on Monday after allegedly causing a minor accident and then fleeing the scene.

According to the police report, a silver 2003 Ford Explorer operated by 21-year-old Davell Shaw of Mason City attempted to pass a gold 2005 Chrysler Town & Country van operated by 32 year old Josh Patrie of Charles City in the 400 block of 7th Avenue when Shaw’s vehicle sideswiped Patrie’s van.

Police say Shaw fled the scene in his vehicle and also failed to stop for a squad car. Officers apprehended the men behind a business in the 1000 block of South Grand Avenue.

Shaw was arrested and charged with operating without a driver’s license, leaving the scene of an accident, no insurance and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. 23-year-old Ryan Brewer of Charles City was also arrested and charged with charged with driving while suspended, operating a non-registered vehicle, and failure to provide proof of insurance.

The estimated total damage of the accident was $2500.
