It’s no secret that our area is having a hard time shaking winter weather this year, but it isn’t stopping the New Hampton Parks and Recreation Department from preparing for their spring and summer programs.  The program flyer is ready to go and program coordinator Tara Hackman says it will be spread around very soon.

Hillegas drops 41 as CC Girls Cruise

The Charles City Comet girls basketball team’s offense was in high gear from start to finish in last night’s Northeast Iowa Conference win over Oelwein.  The Comets scored a season high 94 points and won easily in Oelwein by 33.  Hali Hillegas led the charge as she hit six three pointers in route to scoring

Ten Comet Wrestlers Punch Ticket to Districts

The Charles City Comet Wrestlers made the trip to Independence looking for their chance to advance to districts.  The Comet Grapplers had an excellent showing advancing 10 wrestlers out of the 14 weight classes.  Charles City crowned five champions and had five runner-ups.  At 106 pounds, freshman Nate Lasher was a sectional champion, sophomore Austin


New High School Football Districts Released

The Iowa High School Athletic Association recently released the new districts for the upcoming football season.  Charles City will be in Class 3A District 3 along with Crestwood, Decorah, Independence, Vinton-Shellsburg, Waverly-Shell Rock, and West Delaware.  Osage is in Class 2A District 2 with Clarion-Goldfield, Clear Lake, Estherville Lincoln Central, Forest City, Garner-Hayfield/Ventura, and Hampton-Dumont.

CC Wrestlers Take Home 1st at Hudson Invitational

The Charles City Comet Grapplers had a great showing at the Hudson Invitational Wrestling Tournament on January 18th as the blew by the eight-team field in route to the team title.  Charles City’s 242.5 team points were a full 70 points ahead of second place Don Bosco – Gilbertville.  The Comets crowned six champions which included junior Johnny
