Local Sports Weekend Wrap (4/13)

The Charles City Comet boys golf team was in New Hampton and came away with their first Northeast Iowa Conference win of the season as they knocked off the Chickasaws 175-184.  Comet sophomores Drew Mitchell and Nate Lasher led the way for Charles City as they each entered the clubhouse with scores of 42.  Freshman

If Mother Nature permits, there will be some spring activities in our area tonight.  The Charles City Comet girls tennis team is scheduled to travel to Osage tonight for a meet.  Meet time is at 4pm. Local Spring Sports Results (4/7)

Local spring sports are underway and the weather was cooperative enough to get some golf and track meets in yesterday.  The Charles City Comet boys track team was in Decorah last night competing against the Vikings, New Hampton, South Winneshiek and Waukon.  The Comets were able to claim the meet title with 80.5 team points

College basketball is on a lot of people’s minds this time of year, especially with the Sweet 16 starting tonight.  We will cover some college football however during this sports report. Local Athletes Earn Postseason Honors (3/12)

The Charles City Comet boys and girls bowling teams recently had some individuals honored as the All-District Teams came out.  The Comets had two athletes named to the first team, Tyler Brockney a junior for the Comet boys and Macy Ross a freshman for the Comet girls.  Brockney finished the year with a 211 average

Area Girls Earn INA All-State Honors (3/10)

The Iowa Newspaper Association recently released its selections for the Iowa Girls All-State Basketball teams and a few area athletes were awarded.  Osage Green Devil freshman Ellie Friesen was named to the Class 3A second team after her outstanding season.  Friesen was second in the state with 84 three point field goals made and averaged
