Charles City, Iowa – The 21st Annual Great Chili Cook-Off is in the books and the public has bestowed the coveted “Golden Ladle Award” to David Nehls of the Izaac Walton League. Nehls was the top vote getter at Friday’s event held at the Columbus Club in Charles City and hosted by the Promotion Committee of Community Revitalization.
A total of eight “Hometown Helpers,” representing different non-profit organizations from the community, took part in this year’s event by cooking up their best chili recipes. The public could then sample and vote for their favorites in a blind taste test. Cooks and the programs they represented were: Meagan Wrecsics, Caring Connections (Chili #1); Amy Harrold, PAWS (Chili #2); Jill Martinez, Friends of the Library (Chili #3), Sandy Harrington, Comprehensive Systems, Inc. (Chili #4); Becky McEnany, Charles City Elks (Chili #5); Lance Lasher, Charles City Family YMCA (Chili #6); Nehls with Chili #7; and Kim Wendel, Charles City Dollars For Scholars (Chili #8).
