Charles City, Iowa – A tour of the construction of the new middle school in Charles City was held on Thursday for local media.
Senior Project Manger Scott Shiller of Estes Construction, along with Dr. Dan Cox led the tour.
Natural light, a courtyard, unique spaces and an area that can be used for community groups are just some of the highlights of the new school.
Dr. Cox said that “cave” and “camp” spaces are two of his favorite parts of the school design.
The natural lighting throughout the common areas is a unique feature, according to Cox.
Cox talked about a space that will be able to be utilized for community groups.
Cox said the project is still on budget.
Senior Project Manager Scott Shiller of Estes Construction talked about how many contractors are working on the project and that most of them are local.
A working elevator will be available for students as a part of the design.
The gymnasium will be utilized for both physical education as well as the competition gym for the high school.
School board member Robin Macomber talked about seeing the project come to fruition.
The economic impact of the project has been beneficial for Charles City.
Schiller said he and his crew have enjoyed working in Charles City.
